Verify a Payment Settlement Notice Before Sharing Business Records | Eric Kuvykin

A message about a card-payment settlement may ask for merchant records or a payment election. Treat that message as an item to authenticate before responding. An organized verification file helps a business avoid sending financial documents to an unverified recipient while preserving a record of legitimate notices and instructions.

Start from an independently opened source

Do not begin with a shortened link or an attachment supplied by an unexpected sender. Open the official court-authorized website independently, locate its current FAQ and compare the instructions there. A familiar case name, logo or email display name alone does not prove that the specific request is genuine.

Match the business and the reference

Record the merchant legal name, business names used during the relevant period, notice reference and the date received. Keep separate records for separate entities. If a notice concerns a former location, identify who is authorized to act rather than assuming the current store manager should submit the requested information.

Minimize what leaves the business

List the exact documents requested and the reason given for each. Have an authorized reviewer approve any sensitive disclosure and destination. Never place passwords, full card data or unrelated employee records into a general settlement folder. Use a controlled copy of the record, retaining the original and the transmission receipt.

Keep a dated verification trail

Save the official instruction page or its dated reference, the contact route used and the response received. When a message conflicts with the official source, stop and ask through an independently verified channel. This guide makes no claim about eligibility, a filing deadline, recovery amount or distribution timing.

Source and next steps

The official FAQ is the starting point for current settlement administration information. It does not authenticate every third-party message that mentions the case. Read Official court-authorized Payment Card Settlement FAQ.
