A promotion offered online and honored in a store can create mismatched order totals, discounts and returns. Before launching it, define where the promotion is calculated and how the result reaches payment and accounting records. The test should cover the complete customer journey, including an edited order or partial return.
Define one authoritative promotion rule
Record the eligible products, dates, locations and permitted combinations in the approved offer. Identify the system that calculates the discount. If another channel must reproduce the rule, document the mapping and owner. A cashier should not have to guess the intended outcome from an advertisement at the register.
Test edits and partial fulfillment
Use an approved scenario set including a removed item, changed quantity and split fulfillment where supported. Compare the order total and payment request before collection. Check whether tax treatment or other pricing details require review by the appropriate adviser. Do not infer those details from the appearance of a vendor demo.
Reconcile a return to the actual purchase
Find the original order and its allocated discount before calculating the supported refund. Test the receipt and accounting export as well as the customer-facing result. A manual stock adjustment does not resolve an incorrect payment amount, and a correct payment amount does not automatically restore the proper inventory quantity.
Review exceptions after launch
Track overrides, customer complaints and orders requiring manual correction. Keep enough references to investigate without duplicating unnecessary personal information. For a New Jersey business expanding between online and store channels, review the promotion in each supported location before advertising a uniform cross-channel experience.
