A routing dashboard may display an attractive authorization rate without showing the complete cost of settled transactions and exceptions. Build the measurement chain before changing routes: order, attempt, authorization, capture, settlement and adjustment. Otherwise, a comparison can reward a route for initiating activity that never becomes usable collected revenue.
Choose consistent units
Define whether the comparison counts orders, payment attempts or settled transactions. Retried attempts can inflate activity without creating another sale. Keep the original order reference and each provider reference available through authorized systems. Document which records are excluded and why, rather than treating missing records as successful or failed by default.
Connect costs to their source
Separate transaction charges, recurring platform charges, refunds and other adjustments that the actual agreement identifies. Assign shared costs consistently and disclose the method. Do not invent a per-route fee allocation merely to produce a precise-looking result when the provider does not expose the relevant detail.
Compare a suitable transaction mix
Control for channel, ticket size and other material differences available in the approved data. Record the test period and configuration. A route handling more difficult orders may have different outcomes for reasons unrelated to its quality. State limitations of a small sample rather than presenting every percentage change as a proven improvement.
Keep reconciliation and rollback visible
Review unknown statuses, delayed reports and duplicate investigations alongside approval and cost metrics. Assign unresolved items to a person before extending the pilot. Preserve the last approved configuration and provider escalation contacts. A cheaper route is not necessarily a better operational choice if the business cannot explain its deposits or support its customers.
